The Malaysian Burden Of Disease And Injury Study (MBOD) 2019 Provides A Comprehensive Assessment Of Malaysia’s Health Landscape By Quantifying Disease And Injury Burden Using Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs). The Study Aligns National Priorities With Global Standards By Curating A 162-cause Disease List Adapted From The Global Burden Of Disease (GBD) Framework, Incorporating Local Health Priorities, Including Tropical Diseases, And Harmonising Data Sources Using ICD-10 Coding. Improvements In Mortality Estimation And Integration Of Diverse National Datasets, Including Health Surveys And Disease Registries, Enhanced The Accuracy Of Burden Estimates. In 2019, Malaysia Recorded 3.43 Million Years Of Life Lost (YLLs) Due To Premature Mortality And 2.19 Million Years Lived With Disability (YLDs), Resulting In A Total Of 5.62 Million DALYs (61% YLL; 39% YLD). Males Accounted For 56.6% Of Total DALYs. Cardiovascular Diseases Were The Leading Contributors To Overall Burden, Followed By Neoplasms, And Diabetes And Kidney Diseases. The Leading Causes Of DALYs Were Ischaemic Heart Disease, Stroke, Diabetes Mellitus, Lower Respiratory Infections, And Road Injuries. Disease Burden Varied By Age And Sex, With Neonatal Conditions Dominating In Children Under Five, Road Injuries Among Those Aged 15–29, And Cardiovascular Diseases Among Adults Aged ≥30 Years. Overall, MBOD 2019 Identifies Ischaemic Heart Disease As The Leading Cause Of Total Disease Burden In Malaysia And Highlights The Growing Dominance Of Non-communicable Diseases. Background: As A Platform For Monitoring The Health Of The Population In Malaysia, National Surveys Have Been Carried Out In Malaysia Since 1986 To Provide Essential Community-based Data On The Pattern Of Health Service Utilisation And Expenditure. There Is A Need For The Areas Covered Under The Healthcare Demand Module To Be Revisited To Keep Up With The Current Epidemiological Transition And Gather Invaluable Source Of Health Information To Support Policy Development And Programme Planning. This Study Was Carried Out To: 1) Review Available Instruments Measuring Demand For Healthcare And Identify Key Areas For Inclusion Or Expansion; And 2) Develop An Instrument To Measure Healthcare Demand. Methodology: The Development And Refinement Of The Questionnaire For Healthcare Demand Module Were Conducted In Two Parts. First Part Involved Literature Review, Items Development And Expert Panels’ And Stakeholders’ Assessment, While Second Part Involved Questionnaire Translation, Experts’ Review, Pre-tests With Cognitive Debriefing And Pilot Tests. Results: In Total, Eight Sessions Of Stakeholder Discussion Were Conducted Throughout The Process And 355 Respondents Participated In Both Pre-tests And Pilot Tests. The Final Healthcare Demand Module Consists Of 10 Sections. Additional Research Areas Included Were Family Doctor Utilization, Chronic Pain, Utilization Of Healthcare Services (community Pharmacy, Home Care/visit And Private Medical Laboratory) And Informal Caregiving In The Population. Conclusion: Exploring Key Research Areas Through Extensive Literature Review And Engagement Of Various Stakeholders Resulted In A List Of Relevant And Current Research Topics For Malaysia. This Cross-sectional Study Was Conducted In Government Tertiary Hospitals Across Fourteen States In Malaysia Between August And November 2017. This Study Aimed To Evaluate The Seroprevalence Of Diphtheria Among The Malaysian Population. The Sample Consists Of 3317 Individuals Aged 2 To 60 Years Attending Various Hospital Clinics, Including Outpatient, Pediatric, Medical, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Orthopedics, Daycare, And The Blood Bank. The Sample Size Was Proportionally Distributed Based On State Population Size, With Hospitals Selected Accordingly. Participants Were Excluded If They Had A Fever, Severe Illness, Psychiatric Disorders, Or Immunocompromised Conditions.
