The National Health and Morbidity Survey 2023: Non-Communicable Diseases and Healthcare Demand (NHMS 2023) is a cross-sectional, nationwide, population-based survey. The survey employed a two-stage stratified random sampling design to ensure national representativeness. Data collection methods included validated questionnaires administered through face-to-face interviews and self-administered questionnaires, alongside clinical assessments and blood investigations using calibrated devices. The survey aims to determine the prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), their associated risk factors, and healthcare demand among the population of Malaysia. This dataset focuses on NCDs and NCD risk factors, including diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia, physical inactivity, tobacco use, alcohol consumption, health screening, dietary practices, nutritional status, mental health, asthma, and disability. A total of 13,616 individuals agreed to participate, with 5,006 Living Quarters successfully visited, achieving an overall response rate of 83.2%. Further details of the technical report can be found on the Institute for Public Health (IPH) website: https://iku.nih.gov.my/images/nhms2023/report-nhms-2023.pdf The module on Healthcare Demand (HCD) presents a thorough overview of self-rated health, prevalent acute health issues, and health service utilisation in Malaysia. The 2023 Health Care Demand (HCD) module offers a comprehensive view of health, covering general aspects like self-rated health, acute health problems, and health-seeking behaviours. It also delves into healthcare service utilisation, including outpatient healthcare, inpatient healthcare, oral health, and medical check-ups.
